Developer Heart Machine's Hyper Light Drifter, coming to the Wii U this year, is an action rpg done in an 8bit/16 bit style. It reminds me a bit of old PC adventure games like Space Quest or King's Quest. The graphics are much more beautiful than that though. This is a very impressive looking game.
Gameplay wise, think early Zelda except with weapon upgrades. Hyper Light Drifter does look like it includes some cartoony blood, so I don't think its aiming for a young audience. The vibe I get from the game is that its looking for older gamers who yearn for more games from yesteryear. Not a bad thing, in fact, Shovel Knight proved that there are still plenty of ways new games can revisit old style gameplay and be amazing.
